Iker Casillas finally retires, set to run for Spanish FA president.

- Casillas has declared his intentions to run for Spanish FA presidency later in 2020

Iker Casillas has finally hung his gloves from the game he loves the most and he is regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in his generation. The 38-year-old won three Champions League titles and five La Liga trophies during his 19-year spell with Spanish giants Real Madrid. Casillas played 725 matches for Los Blancos and captained the Spanish national team to back-to-back European championships in 2008 and 2012, and led the their team to their first ever World Cup in 2010.

He unceremoniously lost his place in the national team during the 2016 Euros in France to Man United goalie David de Gea.
The inspirational captain also left the Santiago Bernabeu in 2015 after clashing with President Florentiono Perez. The Spanish shot-stopper spent the last four years with Portuguese outfit FC Porto before he suffered a heart-attack in April 2019.

Casillas is now taking a step further in his illustrious career as he has declared his intention to run for presidency of the Spanish FA. In his announcement on Twitter, Casillas said: "Yes, I will stand for presidency of the Spanish FA when elections are called. Together we will put our federation at the level of the best football in the world."
